As part of our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverjug.org\/?p=1134\">holiday party<\/a>, we decided to give our awards for the best talks of 2017. We were hoping to use meetup.com&#8217;s rating system for each meetup, but we found that a lot of folks didn&#8217;t vote. Therefore, we simply used meetup attendance to decide our winners for 2017. I&#8217;m happy to announce the following winners for 2017:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/DenverJavaUsersGroup\/events\/240399077\/\">Machine Learning Exposed: The Fundamentals with James Weaver<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/DenverJavaUsersGroup\/events\/239225319\/\">Spring Boot Apps in Containers Using Docker with Joel Crosswhite and Thomas Sheffer<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/DenverJavaUsersGroup\/events\/236811918\/\">Authentication as a Microservice with Brian Pontarelli<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We&#8217;ve ordered trophies for each winner and will be sending them in the mail this week.<\/p>\n<p>Another fun activity we did at the meetup was to select which talk from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/venkat_s\">Venkat Subramaniam<\/a> we wanted to see next year. We decided on &#8220;From Functional to Reactive Programming&#8221; and published the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/DenverJavaUsersGroup\/events\/gbcxxmyxcbnb\/\">meeting details<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I&#8217;d like to thank Jay Zimmerman of <a href=\"https:\/\/nofluffjuststuff.com\/home\/main\">No Fluff Just Stuff<\/a> for donating prizes for our ugly sweater contest. Jay donated free passes to <a href=\"https:\/\/angularsummit.com\/conference\/chicago\/2018\/05\/home\">Angular Summit<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/uberconf.com\/conference\/denver\/2018\/07\/home\">UberConf<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/therichwebexperience.com\/conference\/clearwater\/2017\/12\/home\">The Rich Web Experience<\/a> (2018). Unfortunately, only <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gregostravich\">Greg Ostravich<\/a> and myself (Matt Raible) showed up in sweaters.
